ReplyDeleteThe House Appropriations committee has introduced the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, also known as the economic stimulus plan. The 13 page summary includes references to the "Education for 21st Century" appropriation.
In higher education, the emphasis is on providing student aid (other than the $6 billion for school construction noted above). The maximum Pell grant goes up by $500, more money for college work-study, an increase on limits to Stafford loans to $2,000, and $50 million to the Department to keep up with the “surging student aid programs while navigating the changing student loan environment.”
